Labella Deep Talking lights break in time?

Sign in to disble this ad
I put a set of LaBella Deep Talking light gauge short scale flats on my Gibson SG reissue.

I've never really played with flats and after the latest MSP gtg decided it was time to mess around. I mainly play my roundwound-strung 5 string jazz, but figured I should give this a go after they are a: fun, and b: jack bruce approved.

Should I expect any changes over the days/months/weeks of play time?

My dads friend is also cutting a new graphite nut for the bass which I am excited about, because this particular USA bass came with a plastic nut . It chipped once just from my playing it!

I've been using LaBella's on 2 of my basses (both american p basses - one 4 string, one 5 string) for reggae and dub. I love them and now i can't stand the feel of roundwounds lol. They have a nice thump and good tension. I'm not sure how to describe it really, but when you first get them they are kind of sticky. The longer you have them on there and the more you play the more oil and dirt they absorb and they'll become nice and smooth. They're a bit pricey, but totally worth it.

I had a set of 760fx and they sounded great, a little bright at first but they mellow nicely after about a week of regular playing. They hit a sweet spot for me for about 2 months or so, then one night the E and A went really dead, no more sustain, no high end and I started getting this weird sound on the initial attack. It almost sounded like the pumping effect one would get from a compressor. Very strange. I'm going to give them a good soak in some denatured alcohol and see if that helps.
