My instructor suggested that I try the LaBella flats. So I picked up a set (expensive strings) and put them on my P. Well, now the neck is bowed and if these are suppose to be low tension strings my fingers must really be weak. Seriously i took dA Chromes off for these and they felt great. But my problem is the trust rod. It's that old style with the "X" (guess you call that philips) and the body is to close to the adjustment area. First time I ever had to adjust the neck. This sucks!

Edit: I just noticed in the title to the thread you got the 760Ms -- the Jamerson set? If so those are about the stiffest flats made today. La Bella makes several much lighter sets of flats.

I have those strings, in that gauge, and they are the absolute highest tension strings I've ever played. They do sound obscenely good though! |

BTW: I took a big'o philips screwdrive and the rod wouldn't turn at all - am I suppose to take the strings off to get it to turn?

You may need to actually straighten the neck a bit by hand while turning the truss rod. Also, you need a large flat head screwdriver because the T shaped Fender truss rod nut is not actually designed for a Phillips head.

Yeah, the 760M's are way too much for even me to handle. |

Use a small wooden skewer ( or toothpick, or whatever) and dab some vaseline into the inside of the nut. Do not get it on the outside. Then tighten the truss to your needs.
I have these strings on my VM Jazz, and that neck is pretty movable. But a few adjustments make the bass very playable. Enjoy! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
