LaBella Flats on a Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone try LaBella 760FL's (or any other 760 series flats) on a late model Jazz Bass? What do you think? I am considering flats on my '09 MIA Jazz for blues and classic rock. I have a Jazz with stainless rounds on it too.

Just put a set of 760FL's on my Fender '06 Am. Deluxe Jazz, replacing the original roundwounds, and I like them very much. The things that impress me most are the tone, easier playability and less fret noise. The set up definitely needed adjusting to compensate for the higher tension, that is, a tweek of the truss rod followed by changing the action at the bridge but nothing too serious. I have a set of TI flats on a '74 Fender Precision which has a jazz neck and I do prefer the tension of the TI's compared to the 760FL's. Its difficult to compare the tone between the two types of flatwounds since the bass guitars are different. Both really have much warmer D and G strings, IMHO.

Don't know about La Bellas ... first hand

My 70s Jazz with alder body and maple neck, didn't get along well with XL Chromes but did very well with TI flats, that I understand have a similar sound to the La Bella.
