LaBella Jamerson Flatwounds??

Sign in to disble this ad
I am using Rotosound Roundwounds right now and really dig them.....I have never played flats but if I do these would be the set I would try. If any of you have used or use the LaBella Jamersons could you tell me the pros and cons of them and how they compare to my current setup. I play a T24. Thanks for the input.

First off, You probaly know that rounds and flats sound Completly Different. Go to this link to hear the difference between rotosond rounds and flats:
http://www.rotosound.com/bassscr.html

Second, I Don't know what gauge you are using now, But the Jamerson's are TREE TRUNKS. They are VERY stiff. They have a great mellow tone with some brightness to them, but are H#LL on your plucking fingers and hand.

Before you dive head first into the Flats, try the rotosounds. They are half the price of the Jamerson's and will give you a good idea if you like flats or not.

LaBella Jamersons were the first set of flats I ever bought, after using rounds for almost 2 decades exclusively. I always wanted a P-Bass set up Jamerson style. I bought the strings out of sentiment for my favorite bassist when they first came out on the market and bought the P-Bass later

Anyway, these strings are of great build quality and sound like you'd expect them to, especially with the foam bridge mute. As mentioned above, these strings are heavy and stiff as they get, and will probably require a truss rod adjustment because of that.

As for pros, the Jamerson set delivers what it promises, and a lot of Motown/Jamerson lines seem to "flow" on a P set up with them. They play in tune all over the neck and of of very high quality.

The cons are the expense and the fact that they are physically demanding to play.

i wouldnt reccomend rotosounds instead of jamersons they are almost as stiff. Dont be scared of the jamersons, youll get used to the feel and you will get stronger

also if you go to http://elderly.com/brand/STBS_labella.html you can get jamersons for $27.50
