Labella Jamerson question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,

This is my first post and I already feel at home

I'm lookking for the best strings for my 1980 G&L 1000 bass. I tune down a half step so I don't want floppines. I'm after motown, soul, old school rock and gospel sounds.
I was thinking about TI flats but they might feel rubbery.
What about Labella Jamerson set? I've found that there are deep talkin' sets and jamerson 1954 sets...uhmmm I'm confused ...

Are them the same apart form the gauge?

Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure they're the same except for the gauge. If you want non-floppiness, that is the set to get. They are extremely stiff. And you're right about TI's. Definitely not the string for you.

I use Jamersons with my (capo on second fret) converted shortscale geddy jazz. Fairly stiff even when downtuned. There is a fair chance they might be too stiff for you. You can get them at Elderly Instruments for $27.

You might also want to try Fender 9050Ms. They are very stiff too, but noticeably looser than the Jamersons.

Cheers guys!

I think I'm going to go ahead and order some deep talkin' sets... I reckon the historically correct jamerson set would have too much tension... still I don't know if the gauge is the only difference....
anybody else has an oppinion / info on the matter?

Even if they're built differently, by the time you've had them on for a month or two, they're going to sound the same. But I'm 95% sure they're built the same.
