Labella/Jazz/Frustration!

I've been waiting all week for my Labella 760FL flats to get here. They came today, I'm about to put them on, and I see the silk on the E string is too short and somewhere between 1/2" and an inch of non-silked string will be on the post. The package says not to do that. It's a regular scale Jazz. I can't find any 760FLs anywhere that say they are a different scale length, in fact, none of them mention scale length at all, so I assumed there was only one length 760FL.
Lots and lots of people say they use these exact strings on their Jazz basses. I can't find any mention of this problem through a search.

Do I just go ahead and string them up and see what happens? Is it this way with your strings/Jazz?

IMO and IME there is nothing wrong with wrapping the non-silk-covered string on your post. I don't play LaBella's, but I wonder why the package says not to do that? I've never heard of that warning before.

I went ahead and strung it up. There's only 1/2" of bare string touching the post. Maybe it'll be alright.

The Labella's will last for years, if you don't take them off.

I have a couple sets of Fender 9050's that I can carefully remove, and put back on. They seem to be able to handle the mild abuse. My last set of Labella's broke at the silked portion after being removed only a few times.

Joe Osborne has mentioned that he had the same set of Labella's on his jazz for something like, 10-12 years.

No maybe about it. Play it and forget it - silk or no silk on the post should make no difference. LaBellas are wonderful strings.
