LaBella Slappers, EB Slinkys, B string tension.

I'm using EB reg slinky 5's on a Bongo, but the B string seems a bit floppy. Anyone know if the Slappers are tighter in tension?

Tia, phat

No, they're not higher tension, but it will be a little more forgiving tone wise. When the labellas choke out they don't go sharp and sound awful ... they growl. Cool strings.

If you want higher tension, try dean markley blue steels or sadowsky stainless.

Or, you could just raise the saddle a bit.

COOL.... Thanks Pickles! I was hoping you would find this post. I pulled out my box of slightly used strings last night. The DR hi beams sounded less lively than the Slinks, and I tried a 3 yr. old set of xtra long Chromes...........I was suprised, truly an all purpose string. The B and E strings are much stiffer than the Slinky regs, which would allow me to dig in more w/o the fret buzz. I could actually live with these for awhile; I just wish the D string wasn't as tight.

You can buld your own perfect set of Chromes right on D'Addario's website. You pick the gauges from the list of singles.

Hey....that's right! I just wonder, if having a softer D string, would affect the balance between the others? Or, perhaps, I should try the "Lite" set with a .130 B string.

Get the unit weights of the strings from the PDF file on D'Addario's website http://www.daddario.com/Resources/JD...sion_chart.pdf , punch them into Greenboy's string tension calculator http://lowdownlowdown.com/greenboy/DL/String/ and you can build a perfectly balanced set.

The B string you liked was probably a .132, so if I were you I'd base the rest of the set on the tension of that particular string at whatever you tune it to.

In general, mixed with whatever 4-string sets, I've liked Labella tapered B strings more than just about any others.
