Does anybody use these? I'd like to know if the ends of these strings are tapered down to narrow ends, so that they fit in the tuners.

It's just that the last set of tapewounds I ordered (GHS) weren't tapered down, so they were utterly useless , and I want to make sure that doesn't happen again.

I use them on a couple of basses, and indeed they are tapered. The dark purple ends are much smaller than the tapewound part of the string, and fit an ordinary tuning machine just fine.

I did ruin a set once by trying to cut them down to fit a 30-inch scale. I cut just a little too short on one string, and all the tape came off. Also, the E string is pretty fat, so you may find that the nut slot needs to be filed a bit. I cracked a plastic nut once by not filing the slot before putting those tapewounds on.

I love the strings--just be sure the scale length and nut slots fit!

If you think the E string is big, I have a set on my Lakland 55-02 Fretless. The B string is absolutely Gi-normous. Suprisingly, I didn't have to file the nut out and fortunately, it didn't break the nut. I love the sound of them on my fretless. Not as dead and thumpy as a flat, a little closer to a round, but not exactly, and no damage to the Finger board. My bass teacher has a set on a '76 jazz fretless that have been on it for 20 years now. They still sound fantastic. They are almost broke in. If mine last that long, they will have been a sound investment.
