Lakland 5 string through body 35" non-tapered?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

I'm in a predicament. I have two 55-94's and I've always used the Lakland SS strings on them so they are set up for non-tapered (bridge) even on the B string and they string through body with 35" scale. Problem is, I don't like the way they sound in general and they die in like 3 days playing time. The only other strings I've found that will string through body 35" is the DR Longnecks, which taper at the bridge on the B string which my basses are not set up for and I've heard that one does not put tapered strings through body anyways because of the steep break angle as they are prone to breaking.

Do you string guys know of any string brand and series that will set up like the Laklands but last and sound better? Any advice is very appreciated.

I've got a set of DR Hi-Beams with a non-tapered B on my 55-01. I like it a lot better than the Lakland 5-string sets I used to use as they had a tapered B string, and the feel and sound of the stirng was always too different from the other 4 strings.

I got mine from Juststrings.com, so they should be able to supply you. I had to dig a bit to find the set with the untapered B.

However, the tapered strings do work fine on the Lakland bridge going through the body.

What about the Marcus Miller DR Fat Beams-- I know they don't taper but are they long enough to fit a 35" scale and string thru body? I'd love to try these strings but am unsure how long they get.
