| I haven't used LaBellas in decades, so I can't offer much there. The "Old Original" LaBellas which are now marketed as the "Jamerson set" were very heavy and stiff. They had a big thud, but no real note in them. I"ve been using a set of Lakland JO strings for about 8 years now on my Precision. It's the perfect flatwound for me. It has that classic flatwound souind, but there's a definite note, rather than a dull indistinct kick-drum thump. Like an interview I just read with an upright player- he said he wants and Ab note, not and Ab thump...
They feel great under both hands. I like the TI flats' sound, but it's NOT a traditional flatwound sound. But the real problem for me with TI's was the way they felt under my plucking hand. Switching between the roundwound and flatwound strung basses was clumsy due to the extreme difference in feel. The Laklands feel pretty similar to the rounds I use (DR Hi-Beams and Lakland Stainless; all are in the 45/65/85/105 range including the flats).
Highly recommended by me...
