Yep, the red silk is their nickle string (actually they're GHS Boomers, which also have the red silk), and the grey silk is the stainless set (again, GHS Super Steels). I alternate pretty regularly between DR Hi-Beams and Lakland Stainless, but I abhor the Boomers and the Lakland nickles.

Lakland strings are made by GHS, but based on their own specification, so they are not identical with any GHS strings.

Lakland offers "Lakland Custom Wound and DR Strings" on their website. That tells me Lakland strings are probably made for them by DR. Are you guys sure they are made by GHS?

The red silked ones are identical to GHS Boomers from my experience, down to the red silk, the Boomer tone, and the inability for me to get them to settle into tune until they've been on for a good week or two. And the grey silk ones are indistinguishable from GHS Super Steels. Plus the Lakland Joe Osborn flats are indistinguishable from GHS Precision Flats. Plus Dan told me they were made by GHS. They had one set for a long time on the website (a 5-string set) that was labled DR, but the ones lableled Lakland are GHS. I quite like the Lakland stainless sets, and they are different from the DR Stainless I also like.

And I don't think the alloys, wrap, or anything substantive are different from GHS strings.

Thanks for the input dezspet. When you say 'based on their own specification' do you mean by string gauge in a set....or something like the metal alloy used in a set of strings? Thanks!
