Lakland Replacement Strings Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up a Lakland USA 4 string from Bass Central a short time ago and am wondering what strings to buy to try and match the originals. Anybody got an idea of what was on there to begin with?

Hi Joe, I understand they'll have their name put on some strings that somebody else makes, and probably a guage according to their specs. I love what is on them, but think they are probably under an original name at my local store or available on the net for a few dollars less.

What have you folks put on your Lakland USA to replace the original strings? Was it to change the tone or try to capture the original sound? Thanks, Frank

I think it does state on the Lakland site what strings their Bass's come with.
If they have the grey wrapping then they will be stainless steel. Im pretty sure the will be 45-105
I really like the Lakland strings as they are cheap, the right length and sound good.
As i live in the Uk i tend to order mine direct off the lakland website.

Ah yeah, looks like they are DR, probably specially made sets according to Lakland specs. Mine does have the grey silk. And your right dave_bass5, they are inexpensive enough from Lakland. I just e-mailed Kirk to try and find out just what my 4-94 came with (ie, stainless and guage).

They are GHS strings made to Laklands specs.

+1 for GHS. Lakland themselves have said that.

I mentioned DR because they are the only other string manufacturer mentioned on Lakland's site.

At one time Lakland were using a non custom set of DR brand strings(I forgot what DR series)on their basses but as of last year after the supply ran out they stopped using them.

You could order a set from Lakland too. When I took my Deluxe 494 in for some attention a few years ago they restrung it with 45/65/85/105 stainless strings (they had big boxes of individual strings) and Dan told me they were GHS. If you don't want to go through Lakland, get a set of GHS Super Steels in that gauge.
