Left on the outside...do I want back in? (tapes, flats, or rounds?)

A few months ago I switched to Tapewound strings on my JazzV. I have been thus far so hugely impressed with the fat warm low and girth of a bigger string that I don't know if I want to change.

However, I'm thinking about getting my bass set up properly and new pickups installed in the next couple of months, and I have an issue.

When I had a nut made and my bass set up for these strings, it seems that these fat strings need the bridge to be moved back to keep the saddles in their groove on the bridge.

I've found this to be an issue with other strings in the past as well, not jut these big fat strings.

This wouldn't be a big issue if the strings were installed with a loop over the peghead before wrapping under the string, but there's only as much string on the pedhead as absolutely needed.

So moving the bridge back would demand a new set of strings, and in thinking about that, I want to know...

What strings - be them round, flat, or tapewound - have fat lows, snarl, volume, and a well balanced response?

I like the way Flats and Tapes play with others but do like the attack of roundwound strings.
