Length for Jazz Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had an issue before with a set of strings being too long for my USA Jazz Bass. I can't remember what kind they were, but anyway. Today when I bought my new Markbass!!! I got a couple of sets of strings thrown in. Both are long scale D'Adarrio strings. Just want to know if they will fit before I open them and cant return them.

I have an '96 American Standard P-Bass and use Long Scale D'addario XL Nickel Roundwound and they fit fine. Same scale length as M.I.A. Fender J-Bass...Dave

I don't see anything wrong with too long... just cut them.

Well on the E string for example, if it's too long then you're trying to turn an untapered string arounfd the tuning post, just doesnt work.

With D'Addario strings, I only cut the E string... about 6 inches past the tuning post, so you can get 3 wraps.

Never had a problem with that. Cut the string far enough above the post to have 2-3 wraps, bend the end 90 degrees and insert into the hollow in the center (pliers help) and start winding. Preferably wrap from up high to down low so that your string is wrapped to the bottom and you get more "break angle" over the nut.

Tons of info on how to string the bass is available online with a quick search. If strings are a bit long, just cut 'em down - but that shouldn't be a problem in this case.
