Less expensive version of DR Loriders

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all. I love the DR. Lo-Riders 45-105. They feel great and sound even better. Just curious if there is a cheaper Steel string that sounds and feels the same? Anyone know?
Maybe even VERY similar.
Thanks.
Jim.

You actually get what you pay for with these strings.

I've heard that Dunlop strings are pretty similar. But that's just what I've heard.

I haven't had too much experience with Nickels but what little I have used them I didn't like the tone. I like my strings to sound like a piano. Warm and full with zing.
Could've been the brand nickels that I used were just not good though. I don't remember which brrand they were but how do you describe nickels?

I play on a electra phoenix p-bass, ash body with maple neck.
The nickel DR's give the tone i always wanted, nice and mellow with a rich deeper tone. I dont like brightness or zingy, when im on the higher strings i like the tone to stay mellow and rich. Which is why i like flatwounds too.

You and I may have different thoughts of what is "brightness and Zing". I have an all tube setup that never gets harsh in the hi end so to get some cut while still staying warm is pretty easy.
Could you give and comparison in your own words about Steel VS. Ni.?

The guy who designed strings for DR now runs Dunlops string division, so they should be similar. I have not compared them though. I just know Dunlop strings are awesome.

What makes Dunlop bass strings so good to you? Long life? Tone? Playability?
