Light ERB Stainless string search...

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm a Stainless round kinda guy... really dislike nickel rounds. I'm looking for extra light but no plain strings (all wound).

This is about were I'm looking to start.... but willing to play with the numbers where needed.

B = .125
E = .095
A = .075
D = .055
G = .040
B = .030
E = .020

I know LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels go 22 29 40 60 75 95 118 which is a tempting start since the 22 is wound... but I've never tried them. DR are my ideal, but they are only doing plain strings below 25. I liked the D'Addario Prosteel and SIT Rock Brights have been ok for me. Truth be told, I miss the Rotosound "Funkmasters" I use to use on my Ric forever ago (30 50 70 90) but I'm not I want THAT light again or not. Ken Smith steels were real nice too.

The bass is 34" scale and as responsive as a synthetic bass since all but the core is Acrylized. It has the best B I've ever played so I'm not worried about going light on the B string.

Thoughts?

Thanks

like what? for 4 and 5 string basses most everyone makes stainless sets with .090 or .095 E strings.... just not many places carry them as regular stock.

Or do you mean a wrapped .020 or .022?

I chose to switch to LaBella Hard Rockin' Steels....

B- .118
E- .095
A- .075
D- .060
G- .040
B- .029
E- .022

Anyone know anyone that can actually sell them to me My contact at LaBella has stopped replying and the shop I was told would have them got shipped .022 guitar strings by mistake.

One suggestion: Ritter SwordSteel strings. I used these on my Listerud 7-string. I liked them.
Gauges are 122-102-82-62-42-32-22 - all are wound.

Have you tried Big City Strings? Their site suggests that the strings you want are available through them.

How's that .118 working for you? Seems mighty light....

Hey Skip!

Yes, Leo has my standing order... but LaBella shipped him a bunch of .022 guitar strings by mistake so he's still out of stock

.118 B is an unknown at this point but I want thinner than my .125 Like I said, I loved the Funkmasters on my Ric with their .090 E

Expensive yes, but very good. (the exchange rate makes it worse for you though)

Must be that "special alloy steel" that makes it more expensive, eh?

Worth it? It is for you to judge....

MTD

James, I recently tried a set of MTD stainless steels:

20 30 40 60 80 100 125, and the 20 is wound.

Not too expensive, either. I'll compare them to the LaBellas as soon as that 22 becomes available.

I bought mine from the LA Bassexchange. Ask for Justin. I imagine other bass stores that carry MTD strings might have them too. You have to buy it as a four string set 40-100, and buy the remaining three as individual strings.
