Light gauge vs. Medium/Regular gauge strings

Hello everyone, I was going to make a nickle vs. steel thread but realized there are about 1.3x10^5 of those threads out there. Anyway, I'm currently using Dean Markley Blues Steel strings medium gauge and have used Ernie Ball Nickel medium gauge too, the sound I get was decent. I was wondering, if I were to switch to lighter gauge strings (40-95, as opposed to 45-100) is there going to be a significant difference in playability (when it comes to double thumping, and flamenco shots)? How will the depth of the sound change?
Also, what color are silk around the tips of Fodera light gauge strings?
