Liking EXL170-5SL... but want brighter and longer lasting

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm using the following and have good luck with them:
Buy D'Addario EXL170-5SL Regular Light Nickel Wound Super Long Scale 5-String Bass Strings | 5 String Sets | Musician's Friend

However I'm looking for something that holds its brightness longer and/or is brighter overall. This is to be used on a ebony fingerboard fretless G&L L2500. I use through-body stringing, hence the "super long" string length.

Should I try Elixer, D'Addario EXPs, other?

Thanks for the help,
mozar

P.S. I did a search and didn't find much

Circle K or DR... try Lo Riders. They are stainless steel but feel good.. I personally love Hi Beams and Fat Beams, as well as anything from Circle K.

They will cost more, but that's why you should have denatured alcohol... though they last a long time out of the box.

want longer lasting strings?

find a sale and buy twice as many and change them more often. no string is THAT much better, IME,.. YMMV.

i like certain brands better than others but a good sale on any string trumps my loyalty. as a lifetime RotoSound user, why pay $24. for one set when Dunlops were on sale recently for $9.!!!

i bought 10 sets for less money than 4 sets of Rotos.... SO,... who cares if i like Rotos better. to me, in this economy, the best deal is the best string for any thing.

SOOOOO,.... find a sale and buy assorted sets and keep it movin'. gl.

I see your point. However, I have found rather large differences in tone, responsiveness and feel among strings brands/models... even for nickel roundwounds.

I'd go with the Circle K strings, they just work. But Lo Riders/Hi beams/ Fat Beams should be bright without eating the fretboard and last a long time.
