| Long Scale XL Chromes on a Fender Jazz?

The local music store sold me on a set of Long Scale D'addario XL Chromes for my Fender Jazz bass, which has a string length of 34 inches.
The D'addario article on Scale Length says for 32" to 34" use Mediums, and for 34" to 36" use Longs.
I want to start the winding of the string in the post with the core, not with the wrap of the string. Will these strings work, or have I been sold strings that will be too long for this bass?
