Is there any problems using long scales on a short scale?

Some strings will snap if the core is wrapped, I'm not sure if chromes will.
FWIW, I put long scale roto flats on my buddies' short scale ibanez and they're fine.

Yes and no. They may not fit nicely or wind nicely. Some say it can cause tuning issues.

With rounds: never had any problem.
With flats or tapes: most manufactureres warn you not to wrap the wound part around the post.

A time ago I was looking for a flatwound short scale B. Someone suggested to shorten the string on the balls end and make a new ankor point with some clamp, wich make sense to me. Haven't tried it yet, because I have to admit that a short scale low B doesn't work that good.

GHS, D'Addario, and others offer all kinds of short scale stringssets. You can get them in your favorite gauge and string type if you look in the right places. If you cannot find them locally, then go to Strings, Instrument Strings, Music Strings for Guitar, Bass, Mandolin, Fiddle and More and type in short scale basss in the search engine.
I find it a better solution than cutting down long scale sets.

Never had a problem with regular long-scale Rotosound or D'addario roundwounds, that's all I've used on my short scales.

I've never used long on a short, but have longs(Chromes) on a medium scale violin style bass(Jay Turser). They've been on for over a year, gigged heavily and no issues

It's preferable to match the string length to the scale, but I've seen long scale strings used on shorties a number of times. As long as you can fit the end of the cut string into the tuner so you get a good wrap, you ought to be OK. I don't do this when I have an option, but it sure wouldn't stop me if I needed the strings right now.

This is a good question, since the choices of brands and gauges for short-scale are very limited. IME, long-scale rounds, pressurewounds work fine. Flats vary. I have used long-scale Chromes and TIs on a shorty without any problem. Pyramids would probably work okay too, since they feel very limber. But LaBellas certainly will not work, and other stiffer-feeling flats, like GHS and older Fenders, may snap when wound around the post.

I've used GHS precision flats, Chromes, TI's and D'Addario rounds on a short scale without any problems.

Keep in mind that the feel won't be as advertised. That is, because of the lower tension at pitch, a medium is probably going to feel more like a light and a heavy more like a medium.
