LONG strings for my Lakland 5501

Sign in to disble this ad
It seems that many of the strings I have will not "fit" my Lakland 5501 as the are too short. Some with JUST barely make it is I string through the bridge. No so far if I string through the body. What strings will work? What are your favorites for the Laklands?

DR's should fit no problem, but what length do you need? What's the measurement from nut to ball end? DR is 37" I think.

I would go with Sunbeams. They are low tension strings, and the 35" scale of your bass adds just enough tension back so Sunbeams are perfect. And of course they are the best sounding string out there

I've used Lakland stainless, DR Hi-Beams (NON-tapered with a 135 B), and Peavey Cirrus strings on my 55-01 through body. All fit fine, and my favorite set is the DR.

To be sure of precise fitment, if you can measure from your ball end to the nut you will be able to determine the best string length for you.

Through the body you may need a string with at least a 38" winding length.

Working on adding a very detailed scale length section to the website...

I like Lakland roundwounds, which I think they still sell off their website.

Yup: Lakland Direct: 5 String Sets

The DRs extra longs fit, too.
