Longest lasting roundwounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
What roundwounds have you guys found to keep somewhat of a new bright tone for the longest time? I know most roundwounds will generally die off quite a bit after a few weeks or less, but have any of you found some that have suprised you and lasted for a bit longer? Doesn't matter so much to me what type of roundwound. Could be nickel, steel, uncoated or coated, just wanna hear which ones you guys have found to last longest.

A coated string like DR Extra Life or Elixer will last the longest.

^+1. But they feel really different compared to ordinary strings. I like DR Sunbeams. They last and last. Also, the nickel Fender strings seem to go forever before dying. BUT I have gotten a bad set once in a while.

sounds weird maybe, but Warwick Reds are the way I go... they are cheap as hell and can last me a month with one alcohol bath (notice that I have 10~ gigs and 8 rehearsals per month) and plus they sound pretty okay..

In general, I'd say that DR strings - both Sun Beams and Fat/Hi Beams - are the longest lasting strings I've tried. I am running a set of Cleartone nickels on one of my basses, and they are amazingly durable.

Elixir Nanoweb

I gig alot and the Elixirs continue to sound great for 3 and 4 months. After a while they will look beat up because the coating sheds and it looks shaggy, but they will still sound good for another month if you're low on cash.

elixir makes wonderful strings. as stated above, they do look shaggy after a while, especially if you play with a pick, but they still have plenty of life in 'em. only downfall is the price... they're pretty expensive so keep that in mind, but if you have the funds go for it.
