i used to use ghs boomers but then became friends with bob from the bass place/palace and was selling me snarling dog strings at 10 bucks a pack which was nice. I havent seen those strings in years. I sure do miss bob and his place.

My 90's Korean '58 Longhorn Dano reissue is currently strung with a set of short scale D'Addario Chromes .45-.100 . Previously I strung it with Danelectro Short Scale Rounds.50-.105, I stocked up on those when my local store had a big blowout sale, and still have one unopened set left. The Dano strings I found out later were actually made by D'addario.

If you're concerned about being able to thread strings through the small holes in the guitar-style tuners you might like a little tip I picked up somewhere on TB.

If you pick at the windings carefully at the cut end of the string (especially easy after the string is cut to length) you can catch the end of the winding. Unwind it a few turns until you can grab a bit of it with your fingers, then pull from further up the string where you'd like the thinner string to stop (before you get to the nut). Let 'er unwind until you get where you like and snip off the scrap. If you need another layer of winding off just repeat.

This has fueled my "super short scale" (guitar Grover tuners) project with used strings for the last several months.

Yup, those small tuning machines sure narrow the options.

I use La Bella Deep Talkin' Bass strings flatwounds 760FD (for Danelectro) and love them.

42-53-60-79. They're light in size, but sound much deeper than they feel.

in case anyone gives a rat's ass i got rid of the ghs's because i could never get them to stay in tune or get the D and G to die. i put d'addario xl's 40-95 on it and they're working out much better.
