i've got peacock blue ones and a set of black beauties on my two basses I play. I think its a matter of what color of your bass you play on to match up the colored strings.

Isn't that the one with red inlays, if so I'd try the DR Red Devils.

Yep. VERY QUICKLY too. They will soon look diseased. My Black Beauties were already missing color in a few small spots when I opened them. I use a pick 90% of the time and the color wore away in no time.

Plus the DR Extra Life strings are very mellow. Not good for metal IMHO, though they can growl with a little distortion. (Though in Death Metal, if you do the typical and play unison lines with the rhythm guitar so you aren't really heard as a separate instrument, cutting through may not be an issue that concerns you.)

I think DR Extra Life strings would be best suited to mellow finger style jazz or some such.

The Red Devils (and Black Beauties, etc.) are Extra Life strings by default. That's what DR calls all its coated strings. The other names are just colors.

Like I said, I don't recommend them for metal or aggressive playing styles. I don't think any color coated string is going to be right for you.

Want red strings? Just play hard enough that you bleed all over 'em.

(Seriously, I used to play with a bassist who was a compulsive hand-washer and had super dry skin. By the time we were finished with our sets his fingers had often cracked open and bled all over his Spector.)

Are you being serious??

I think all that plastic waxy crap would make a mess of your hands, your strings, your bass and your tone!

Lets concentrate on sounding the part first!!

Try dipping the strings in graphite if you want them to be black and not alter the tone too much, however you may have black hands after you play, and your pick may slide off too quickly taking off some of the bite.

I vote for ordering 4 sets: blue, red, green and pink. Then put one from each on your bass for the ultimate in colored strings - the rainbow! of death!
