looking for a new string

Sign in to disble this ad
So I just picked up a Mexican Fender P (price was grandfathered in before all this hiking business so it was $475) and I'm looking for a great string to go with it and I'm wondering what kinds of recomendations you guys have.

Some Background info...

I currently have chromes on a Squier P and I love it. Honestly, if nothing else works I'll move them to the new bass and see how that works... if it works well I'll buy another set to break in. However, I'm looking for something in a roundwound for variety's sake (I play with a pick at times and need rounds on something). I kinda liked the stock strings (I'm assuming something fender and nickel) and I tried the fender tape wounds (they were interesting and I'm saving them to try more seriously at a later date), but right now I'm breaking in a band new set of EB Hybrid Slinkys.

Now my problem is that I don't really like the zinging highs of these strings. I'm going to play them for a few weeks and see how it changes but I'm also keeping my eyes open for something really nice. I'm looking for a dead roundwound string if that makes sense. I'm not so interested in half wounds. I'll try them at some point but there's no need right now.

Anyway does anyone have any advice on different strings that would be thumpin' and decent with a pick with a little EQ change? Or will I be better off just waiting a month or two for these EBs to die and get rid of that super high zing?

All round wound strings I've tried have the zinging highs you talk about for at least the first few weeks. Stainless steel and round core strings bight be a little more of your liking. Hex core seem to die out a little faster to me though and they feel like they have more tension if you perfer that. Hope this helps.
