Looking for an odd set of flats

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two 6-string basses strung EADGCF. Currently, I'm using DR hi-beams because I can get a 4-string set and 2 indivdual strings in the following gauges: .100 .080 .065 .045 .035 .025

In the past, I have also used D'Addario with two guitar strings for the high-C and high-F. Again these were round wounds.

What I'd like to do is find some flats that I can use on the fretless. I'm not worried about the board, but I'd like to get the sound you get from flats. I'm willing to go the same path that I did with the D'Addario strings, but I would guitar flats that are manufactured similarly to the bass flats for the lower strings.

Does anybody know of a manufacturer that makes or can make the strings I'm looking for?

I know D'addario and LaBella both make flats for guitar. The D'addario Chromes in the 13-56 set have a 26 and a 35, and they're fairly easy to find. But I have no idea if the overall string length would be enough for you.

Yup, I'd try stealing flats from a guitar pack and or buy them individually if you can to get those higher stings. If you can I'd try keeping bass and guitar string brand/type alike to hopefully match up better.

That is an excellent idea. I just restrung the bass, but I think I'll try those next. This time around I used a bass set SIT power flats with 2 SIT power flat guitar strings and it works. The E strings is bit large on the tuner since the taper on the string is past where I need to cut, but overall they sound and feel good on the instrument.

I think I will try that set of Bass VI strings next time that I restring.
