looking for particular 5 string set...

Sign in to disble this ad
my husband bought a fender affinity 5 string. even though it's a 34" scale, it won't take standard longs. so what he needs is a set of strings that are a medium scale length and
extra lights (40's or a bit lighter). he'd love nickel but right now he'll settle for the other two.

any suggestions? hours of searching hasn't turned anything up.

Rotosound can supply that. Just scroll down to the nonstandard scale section. ROTOSOUND SWING BASS 66 STRINGS

These can be nickel or steel version. once you find which set you guys thinks best, just search for that set at the internet store you prefer. Most of their sets are carried by the larger internet stores and prob most strings only type internet stores to.

On this bass, is it because the B string tuner is so close to the nut it will not take standard long scale strings?

If you are still tuning BEADG do a set like this from D'Addario using XL Nickel's:

.040 .050 .065 .090 .120

These are Long Scale strings, but the .120 should be a small enough diameter to get around the tuner.

good suggestion. he wants an actual set, but i can't see how it matters.

i'm not seeing a medium scale set of 5-string lights there - i looked earlier, and i'm looking now. am i missing something?

DR Sunbeams. Put together whatever gauges you like here:
DR SUNBEAMS Build your own Custom String Set!

A standard set for light would be:
40
60
80
100
120

I dont think with that instrument the issue is the scale of the strings... but more the thickness or where the string tapers off on the B string. The EADG strings should be fine no matter what you get, but the B string, needs to be a smaller gauge to be able to wrap around the tuner...

So using a lighter gauge B like a .120 should be just fine...

You can also go with GHS Bass Boomers... These have a B for a 34" scale instrument that will work for you:
5L-DYB - Long Light: .040 .055 .075 .095 .120 would be best
http://www.bassstringsonline.com/GHS...w-B_p_446.html

The 40-120 Set above will be nice...

But will be a little less $ for you to purchase a 4string 40-100 set and add the .120B string... getting a 40-95 and adding the .120 is another option as well...

4 String Set:

Add the Lo-B:

Darn, you know what...I read your post wrong. You said standard longs wouldn't fit and I thought you needed longer. But you need shorter. Sorry! DR's are definitely not what you want, they are pretty long.
