Question looking for a piccolo string set for my dobro

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Regal RD-05 coming in the mail on tuesday, and I'm interested in trying to put some piccolo strings on it. I want the dobro because I want an acoustic bass guitar that would be loud enough if unplugged to be heard next to an acoustic guitar. Everything I've read seems to point to this being true. I'm also thinking that if I get piccolo strings for it, it will be even louder because of the higher tuning. I also think a piccolo dobro bass would sound bad ass.

My dilemma is that phosphor bronze strings are recommended on acoustic basses for whatever reason (volume, tone?), and I can't find find a phosphor bronze piccolo set. I have however found this set: http://www.juststrings.com/lab-abn70bb.html . I'm not familiar with brass wound strings and was wondering if anyone had experience with strings like these or not.

Here's my question in a nutshell. given that the dobro design is by default louder than a standard acoustic bass guitar, will I get more volume out of the piccolo set because of the octave difference, or will I get more volume out of the phosphor bronze strings because of the strings design?

Thanks for your input
