Looking for some advice with 5-string Fat Beams

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings. I recently purchased a five string bass, and I'm in the market for a new set of strings. Most of the research I've done points me towards DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams, but I had some questions I've been pondering before I purchase.

1. Are all the strings long enough to be strung through a 34" scale ESP bass?

2. The current B-string I have is fairly floppy, no matter how I adjust it. Would going to the .130 B-string set help remedy this, or should I stick with the .125?

3. Do the Fat Beams play well through an amp/cab setup that has a fairly warm coloring?

Thanks much for any and all assistance.

I dont have experience with the MM Fat Beams, theyre on my list though. Ive played other sets of DR Strings and love em
I think that you will have no problem with the length, capable of being strung up to 37 1/2 inches. I have a five string i think long necks are on it, theyre tapered, but the B string is nice and tight, and responsive. A thicker gauge will give you a fuller, tighter sound along with more stiffness imo.

As for sound, and life of the string? The sound might be a little clackity, trebly, very clean at first, but once you break them in, the sound awesome. lifewise, I practice three, four times a week for about an hour each time. I play classic rock to metal, and they last me about 3 or 4 months.
