Looking for Some Nickels with Attitude for a P Fiver

Sign in to disble this ad
I have G&L L-5000 coming this week. This is a fiver with a passive G&L P style pickup. I believe it is the only fiver made by Leo.

Anyone try the Black Diamond coated strings. I played a Jazz Bass about five years ago that blew me away. It had black coated strings before DR was doing there thing. I went back to the store and the bass was gone. Always made me wonder if the Black Diamond coated strings are a great string. They are pricey.

Weird... back in the '60's Black Diamonds were the "bargain" string. In fact (and this needs checking), I think they were selling round wounds way before they were popular, or even well-known. I never used them much. I wonder if what you're asking about is the same brand name? Tom

After checking the forums I think I am leaning towards a set of $22 7250s. Anyone have experience with their 125 B?

Can't say I've tried those. When I think "nickels with attitude" the first thing that comes to mind is D'Addario XLs. They have a raw, detailed midrange I've never heard in another string, even when they're well-worn. Cheap, too!

I've got a 1-week old set of XLs laying around that I was just starting to think about using. The local GC told me they had the Fender 7250-5Ms when I called but when I showed up they only had 4 string sets. No place to get anything before the bass gets here so I might as well go with the XLs.
