Looking for string suggestion

I have a Fender Active Precision Bass Special (Cowpoke) which I really love, but think I want to change the type of strings I use. Currently it has Fender Roundwounds on it and in general the bass sounds very bright (mostly because of the active pickups). I play 90% of the time with a pick and 10% with fingers. I play mostly Indie/Alternative Rock and play through a GK 700RBII amp w/ a 4x10 cab. From what I have read, I think I want to try flats but have never tried them and actually have never even seen them on a bass in person (and I'm in L.A.?!). I have been to numerous guitar stores and have yet to see any basses w/ flats on (even used ones). I'm looking for a nice thumpy sound. So what would you more experienced players recommend? Thanks for any and all help.

SIT Silencers work best for me. I play mostly w/ a pick and I dont care for flats or round wounds. The Silencers are the best of both worlds. Kind of a compromise between the two.

I've used D'Addario Chromes and GHS's Precision flats. The Chromes are definitely the brighter of the two, so they might be a goo set to try first. If you don't get to the "old school thud" that's in your head with them, then maybe the GHS's. good luck!
