Ok I think it would be simple if you check
this thread first of all cos it'll be easier to explain.
Anyway here's the condensed version: I find my Zon Sonus Custom 4-string bass to be a little dark. After asking for suggestions on how to rectify this, I know for one that I'm not going to mess around with the pickups and preamp etc. So some people over at that thread have suggested I look into trying out different strings basically.
I'm currently using DR Black Beauties. By the way does anyone know if those are nickel or stainless steel? Anyway I did a search for nickel vs stainless etc and I've got a pretty good idea what the deal is. Prior to the DR's, I've always used nickel strings. My Zon came with Zon strings of course, and before that on my other basses I've used D'Addario nickels (can't remember the exact brand).
Now when it comes to stainless steel, I have no experiance with
stainless steel strings whatsoever, although I have had Blue Steels on my guitar and I hated them. Way too bright, way too stiff. So what I'm trying to find out is whether *all* stainless steel bass strings are like that as well, or does it matter on brand and type?
Also, I'm looking for suggestions as to which strings you would recommend - Something bright but not overwhelmingly, also something that won't eat my fingers and has a nice degree of "bendablility". I play with a pick almost exclusively, although sometimes I play slap, but not very often at all though. I play music that I guess you could call hard rock or metal, though sometimes I play funk and some jazz.
Any help would be great, thanks!
