More info needed.

Fill out your user profile. What kind of instrument do you play? What kind of music do you play? What are your influences? What kind of sound are you going after? Etc...

etc...

etc.

I'm in a similiar situation to this so I'm gonna hijack this thread because there's no point in making another.
I play an LTD f-104 (yeah I know, terrible shape but it was 160 second hand from a friend)
I play blues rock and I'm learning funk bass. I'm going for a rich and thick sound if that makes sense.

best to look into Nickel or Stainless Steel for cheap. Flatwound is expensive.

For stainless Steel i go for DR Lo Rider or Fatbeam.

I've found D'Addario XL's to be good, versitile, and inexpensive...

My votes are:
DR Fat Beams - for modern jazz funk sound / new metal
DA XLs - for good low mid bump
DA Chromes - Flatwounds that have a good high end and last and last

I like DR coateds- Colors too!!!! They seem to last at least 2 x as long as normal sets & don't cost THAT much more. I get 'em off ebay USUALLY..
