| Love My Cocco's But....

A few month's back I tried a set of R. Cocco Nickels on my 4 string. I really like these strings and they're nicely worked in. So while my newly purchased Douglas WEB-825 was in transit, I bought another set of Cocco's knowing that changing the stock strings would be the first order of business.
While I was in the store, I happened to play a Rob Allen (which is a whole other story) and I really liked the feel of the La Bella tape wounds that was on the bass. Since the Douglas is going to be used only for playing jazz, I'm considering putting a set of La Bella's tape wounds on it, but I have a few questions first:
1) If I do order them, for a 34" scale bass that's not string through, should I be getting the regular length 760N5 or the 760N5-EXL?
2) Concerning tension. I've been reading on some other threads that the La Bella's put quite a bit of tension on the neck. One poster mentioned that he "maxed out his trussrod". If memory serves me, the LB's felt very close to the Cocco's from a stiffness perspective.
3) Would the LB's be good for a fretted bass? I've tried the gambit of half-rounds and chromes over the years (on both fretted and fretless basses) and don't really care for them. They get too muddy for me over time.
4) Should I just save my money and just let the Cocco's work in.
I'm not trying to get my Douglas to sound like a Rob Allen, for that's impossible. I was just really turned on by the "feel" of those strings.
Thanks in advance.
