Low growl + flats on my Carvin?

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok, I tried searching but couldn't come up with too good of results, so I'll just ask this way...

I play a mid-90s Carvin with the older carvin active pre-amp and I'm looking for some flats that can get a decent low/low-mid growl for my stoner rock band. Anyone got any suggestions that are fairly easy to get ahold of and won't "break the bank?"

Thomastic JF 344s are the liveliest flat wound strings I've used and work great on Carvin.

The pickups will have a major impact too. I don't know what pickup fits your Carvin, but the Carvin J99 single coils are great in a Carvin bass.

Wow, this is the third flatwound thread i've seen this morning. And for the third time I am going to say Daddario Chromes FTW.

All good suggestions. My pick for growl & flats would have to be the Sadowsky flats.

I've tried an original 1966 Fender P with Sadowsky flats. It sounded good but I preferred my 78P with T.I.s. The Sadowsky strings were good though and felt good. Better than many other flats I've played on. Don't know how they stand up over time compared to T.I.s. T.I.s last me many years.

DR Hi Beam Flats sound really good to me. I can get some growly sounds out of em. Little hard to find, but well worth it IMO.

I use Labella tape wounds on my AC50F. They're pretty awesome strings.
