Low tension flatwounds?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey whats up?

I'm thinking of putting some flats on my jazz bass to try something new. I'd use them in my experimental rock band. I'd be playing fingerstyle, with a pick, and very mild/light slapping.

Right now I use light guage DR Hi-beams (45-90)...so the tension on the strings is pretty mild. I've also heard that flatwounds feel very stiff in comparison to rounds.

What flats could I buy for a similar tension to my current set of rounds?

PS: Im looking for a tone with very pronounced low-mids and tight bass.

you are asking for TI jazz flats. for sure. great midrange growl, punchy and everything. awesome! i compare their tension to a 40-100 fatbeam/hibeam set.

in theory, d'addario chromes in 40-95 should be similar in tension.

Ya, I'd recommend TI's too, but be warned...people either completely love them or completely hate them...there is no middle ground.
