Lowest Tension Flats for P-Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I got a P-bass and it has neck issues. So I need to find the flats with the lowest tension that will work with a string-through-body bridge.

No doubt the first answer will be Thomastik Jazz Flats....what would be "second least tension"? Chromes, GHS Precision, LaBella, I know it won't be Fender. I'm looking for "old school" tone here.

Thanks,
Alan

The La Bella 760FX set is quite close in feel to the TI set.

I don't know what the tension is for the La Bellas, because they don't publish tensions, but it must be close.

The NEW (round core) Pyramids are lower tension than TIs. The tone is extremely old school.

How does the tension of TI jazz flats compare to a similar guage of round-wounds?

Jazz Flats are similar in tension to a extra light set of D'Addario rounds.

Do you have a product or catalog # and source?

Mine came from here:

http://www.tone-man.com/pyramid.htm

Packaging looks the same, but they are now round core, not hex core. And a bit cheaper from that dealer than I've seen elsewhere.

I am going to clean mine in denatured alcohol and sell them; they've only been played for an hour. They are as limp as spaghetti so I'm sure nothing was kinked when I took the strings off.
