Lowest tension strings.

Flats or rounds. What are the lowest tension strings? Describe the tone too. I love rotos but they seem they are very high tension.

Thanks

Seems to me that round core strings like DR's have a nice tone and are low tension by nature.
Am positive that you will find MUCH lower tension with DR's than Roto's.

TI Jazz Flats are the lowest tension string I've ever played. I call them supple...

They are a brighter flat. I've had them on my P-Bass for almost 5 years. They've been an all-purpose string for me (except for slap).

You really have to try them to know.

Peace,
Joe

I think that "supple" is a great way to describe the feel of a string. I can bend Chromes. I also am playing them in sets with a 95 or 100 E string, so I suppose the lighter gauges are part of the reason. I switched to flat- wound about a month ago. I am amazed how easy on the hands and finger tips they are and the sound of the Chromes is outstanding.
(All my basses are P basses though)

Aren't TI's a round core followed by a silk wrap, then wrapped in flat wire? They are pretty low in tension and sound great.

+1 These are nice strings with VERY low tension. It takes some getting used to, honestly. At first, they almost feel like 'toy' strings, but you soon learn that there are many subtle differences in tone that can be acheived with the right hand (if you're right-handed) if you pay attention to them. I would also add that, IMO, they are great for slap, it just depends on your tone concept. I'm not much of a slapper myself, but when I do on these strings, it reminds of Me'shell's sound on that John Mellencamp tune.

Had chromes on my P and couldn't stand the tension, but they were better then the Fender flats. I've got DR's on everything else, and loved the feel, so I picked up some TI JF's and WOW. Love them.

You are looking for the most flexible string you can find. Tension will be the same regardless of brand or type, but the 'feel' is in the flexibility. Supple is a great characterization.

I include mine among the most flexible - Circle K's

Hi Beams are most likely the lowest tension steel rounds.
Jazz Rounds are the lowest tension nickel rounds.
TI Jazz Flats are the lowest tension flatwounds I have played.

Oh yes, my bad ... jazz rounds are nickels.
But I remember long time ago switching from hi-beams to Labella DTB rounds Labella were lower tension. I must be' wrong ... it was long time ago...
TI jazz flats are however the lowest tension flats and the best strings on the planet!

Sunbeams are great strings and slightly higher tension than the Jazz Rounds. When someone wants something similar to the jazz rounds but with a little more tension Sunbeams would be my first suggestion.
