Just went to go pick up my favorite strings at Guitar Center, the Marcus Miller Fat Beams. Getting ready to pay for them and the guy behind the counter says, " Oh wait, we have the 2 pack plus dvd for $49.00." Wow 2 pks plus DVD, Ring er up!! Killer concert DVD plus bonus dvd. Go get it while ya can.

What concert? I'll have to swing by my local GC and see if they have the same deal. A lot of these deals don't seem to occur in all guitar centers.

FatBeams have a LOT of character. They scoop the mids out really well, and the low and and high end are both crazy. I used them for a while on my old Kramer with very good results, but they sounded pretty awful on my P-bass.

EW..if they are how you say, then I just might try them. I'm a hi beam guy now, but I like my EQ tone the way you described.

Hi-Beams and Lo-Riders both have a lot of midrange. The FatBeams will be exactly the opposite. I use Lo-Riders on all my other basses.

I have Fat Beams on my P now. Granted I'm not going for a traditional sound, but i get a ton of thump with them.

It's odd how some strings will sound great on some basses, and awful on others. I once put Hi-Beams on my Jazz Bass, and they just sounded thin, tinny and floppy. The Hi-Beams and the EMG's on the Jazz just didn't match up well. Anyway, I put the same strings on my Rickenbacker 4003, and now they sound great. I re-strung the Jazz with the nickel Lo-Riders, now it sounds great too. I also use the nickel Lo-Riders on my Ric V63, and my OLP/MM SR and they sound excellent. I'm pleased with both types on strings.

The DVD is live at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood, it's GREAT. There's also a bonus disk with a lot of topics covered in detail. Tremendous value.
