Marcus Miller Fat Beams

Is anyone playing rock or classic rock using Marcus Miller DR Fat Beam strings ?

I think they might work well on my active Jazz basses, but thought I'd get some opinions first.

Thanks !

I used to use em' on a sr5, great strings, absolutely loved them. I switched to dunlops about 6 months ago and haven't looked back. The dunlops last just as long and sound just as good for 1/2 price, imho.

I play original classic style rock, and have a set on my G&L SB-2. I prefer a little more stiffness, but still like them a lot. On stage, they provide satisfying growl and clarity. They remind me of Dean Markley Blue Steels, with a little more low end, and a smoother feel.

Fatbeams and Sunbeams are two of my favorite strings.

I go back and forth between the two, depending on what my bass and/or music call for.

Fatbeams have to be some of the nicest feeling stainless strings out there.

Will these strings fit on a 35'' scale bass? I can't find a scale on the strings anywhere.

My four-string fretless wears a set of Fat Beams, medium-light gauge. Since the fingerboard has been expoxied, I don't worry a bit about board wear - and I might well have used them anyway...

They're ideal for me: with the supple feel that a roundcore string yields, but the smooth stainless steel wrap that allows for a tone that is crisp and modern, yet deep and warm. Nice.

I tried them on my MM sterling, but went back to the Hi Beams. Seemed to me that The Hi Beams came back in tune better with my Hipshot D Tuner. The Fat Beams always came back a little sharp, even after breaking them in.

Yes, another benefit of DR strings.

I also use them (40-100) to play rock. IMO, they're the best SS strings I've used so far.

My opinion, if you have an unlimited budget, the Fat Beams are the only way to go. Hands down the best sounding (out of the package) strings available. I crave a clean, fat, well-defined tone, and these strings deliver in spades. The bad news, after about a month and a half the tone disappears, and theres no EQ tweaking to bring it back. I expect a set of strings to hold their tone at least 6 months... If you're going to spend big bucks on a set of strings, I'd recommend Cleartones... Good lower cost alternative - D'Addario Pro Steels..
