Marcus Miller and what strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got a Fender Marcus Miller 4 string jazz. It's the brightest sounding bass I've ever run across. Everyone who plays this model I was wondering what type of strings your using. Thanks so much.

What don't you try Marcus Miller signature Fatbeams by DR. They are a touch darker sounding thatn Hi-Beams. I like them very much on my USA Millennium.

Why? The whole purpose of the MM sig is to get that bright MM sound.

Thanks all for the replies. Dr Cheese, I'm going to try a set of DR Fatbeams as you suggested. I usually use DR Sunbeams on my other active jazz. When those strings went dead on it I took them off and put them on the Marcus Jazz. I thought that might tame the Marcus's brightness. The Marcus is so bright sounding it was still to "twangie" for me even though those strings were very dead. This Marcus is the most powerful, cutting, and bright bass I've ever run across.

I have flats on mine ....you have to remember that the Marcus is a jazz afterall, and not everyone wants bright 100% of the time.

Back to flats, I really like my RS77LD on it. They are higher tension so a tweak here and there is needed but they do sound good and they will tame the Preamp to a lot more useful tones than the rounds. They really sound punchy and aggressive for flats too with a nice fundamental and hints at some harmonics.

I think those Roto's will be the only flats I'll put on my Marcus as the Fender flats just didnt do it for me.

Then again... for that Marcus sound, I put on those DR Fatbeams. ZIIING (a compressor is recommended too)

Ive got mine set up with D'Addario Chromes flats and it smoothed her right out. I cant stand the sound of anything but flats now, its just annoying. Then again, I dont slap.

And I didnt buy the MM for the brights either. I just like the way it felt.

Me too. I don't like the way they feel though. The DR SS are much better IMO. I just bought these because it's all they had and they were cheap.

I've just recently started to use the DR marcus sig's on my marcus bass and they are great! They last forever. I was very suprised. I also use the DM Blue Steels and they are very good too.

I switched back and forth between the Marcus Sig and Hi Beams. I like the Hi Beams a little bit better.
