Markley Flats got a bad rap

bought some on the recommendation of my bass tech, came home and read the reviews and everyone hates them! I was just about to return them when I got the urge to try 'em out. and...

I LOVE THEM! it goes to show how subjective everthing really is...

They are nice and smooth (like glass actually, the smoothest flats I have seen!) and rather high tension which I like. Everyone complained about them having no sustain.. well my warwick had too much so I think this was a good marriage! Thumpy, warm and natural sounding, I can even get some decent slap sounds if I eq too.

glad I tried them! Any of you warwick fans out there looking to try flats, these are nice!

This post is probably one of THE best examples I have ever seen here at TB of how YOUR OWN OPINION is all that really matters!

Glad you found a string that really works well for you

I may have been one of the ones you read. If so, I did not hate them, so you are not alone. But I did find they had zero sustain on my P bass. I felt this was on purpose since I think they where trying to mimic a DB sound.

But except for the sustain, I agree with everything else. Very smooth, high tension, very thumpy. Good warm sound.

I looked at the Dean Markley site and they have really changed the packaging. The ones I bought had the folksy hand drawn image.

What gauge did you get? I had the 105s.

I got their last set of mediums (.128)

I had my teacher try it out and he told me he needed a new bass, he loved mine!
