Measuring string gauge...quick question

Sign in to disble this ad
Do you measure string gauge from one side of the string to the other, or from the middle of the string to the side?

Do I use one of these to measure?

String gauge = Diameter of the string. So you can use whatever you want to measure the diameter, but yes a caliper would probably be the easiest way to measure it.

It's the diameter, which means (don't they teach this stuff in grade school any more?) the total distance from one side to the other.

And a Micrometer is a lot easier and more accurate than calipers. Go to the sale bin at a real hardware store (NOT a "home improvement" store, but one where they actually KNOW stuff) and dig around. I got both of my micrometers at ACE for about $5 each.
