Med to heavy strings on Lakkie

Sign in to disble this ad
Time for a string change on my Lakkie 55-02.

I've used Elixir Medium's 45, 65, 85, 105,130 for the last year and a half and noticed the E died last night.

I'm thinking of going up to heavies...50 70, 85, 105, 135.

No particular reason, just...well, just because!

Any thoughts?

I recently did exactly the same thing. I have to say, after using 45,65,85,105,130 for a long time, the move to
50,70,90,110,135 was more difficult than I expected. I use DR Black Beauties and they seem to have a lot more tension, at least to my fingers. The 45-130 set was easy to play and sounded good, The 50-135 set, I'm struggling with. They sound fine, but the tension takes some getting used to. I'm probably going to go back to the 45-130 set. Good luck.

I'd leave your high strings alone and see if you can get the same set with the .135 on bottom . . .

I was totally satisfied with the 45-130 set. I just wanted to try something different...for whatever reason. Lesson learned.

Well, I went ahead and switched to heavies. I really didn't notice any difference at all in the feel. And, tone-wise, I think they sound a little more full. But, it could be that I want them to, also! lol I didn't do anything to the action height or anything else, for that matter. They seem to have a touch more sustain...but that could be all in my head, too. lol
