Medium scale for Sadowsky/ Tapered bridge end strings???

Sign in to disble this ad
First off do i need medium scale strings for a 34 inch scale sadowsky???

I recently bought a Sadowsky RV5 and when wanting to restring it i found i couldnt get the new b string into the bridge..

Can anyone tell me what string makers make tapered ball end string (ie the bridge end of the string is tapered down to the core over the saddle)

Also whenever i go to buy a set of strings they never seem to state if they are medium scale??

Any ideas??

I thought all 34-inch basses required long scale strings and 35-inch basses preferred extra-long scale if the long scales don't fit. I've never tried a medium scale on any of my basses.

34 inches is "standard long scale". Most string sets have this scale length. The taper-core strings that I know of (I'm sure there are others) are LaBella Super Steps, GHS Progressives, Ken Smith Burners, and all Pedulla strings.

I don't think the scale length should have anything to do with whether you can fit the strings through the bridge.

Are you using a heavier gauge B string than it was originally strung with?

No sorry my question was a double one and confusing now i read it!!!..I meant that a normal string at the bridge end wont fit into the bridge because of the width trying to bend it over the saddle..so i need a thinner/tapered end string..

My scale length Q was a seperate one..

You should still be able to get it to bend, although it will take some break-in time. If it seems too stiff going over the saddle, you can manually push it down so you get a straighter string. But taper B is a great option.

Oftentimes string packages won't mention if they're long scale, being the industry standard. They'll ALWAYS say if they're something else, though.
