Mellow strings for bright bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Spector Legend 4 and really like it but sometimes it's just a bit too bright for me . While I don't want to get rid of the brightness completly I would like to mellow it out a bit , any suggestions ? I don't care what brand by the way !

Try Nickel plated strings. Stainless steel strings tend to be more bright. Another option is to try flatwounds or half rounds.

Give the Thomastik "round wound jazz bass" strings a try. Softest, mellowest roundwounds I've ever used.

Flatwounds.

Well, I would probably use the EQ to darken up the tone a bit, but other than that you have to realise that most of the brightness will "go away" in a band setting with a drummer.
