Mellow yet defined sound : advice?

Sign in to disble this ad
Strings to use on my fretted Spectorcore, of which I really enjoy the overdriven tone by the way. I'd like to find strings that have not all that much high end and metallic sound, but still have some definition and, most important, more sustain than dead strings. I'm using d'Addario HalfRounds on my fretless jazz and thought they might do the trick on the Spector, but I'm not 100% convinced... I might prefer going with roundwounds. Any idea?

Oh boy, I can see DR Sunbeams/Nickel Lo Riders and D'Addario Chromes filling the bill. Fender Pure Nickels might do the trick too.

GHS strings once newly broken in might fit the bill, esp if you slightly roll off the upper treble a little bit for awhile. Ive used them nicely with bass thru overdrive. Havent tried dr other then neons of late so not sure about their other strings. Neons I think would be more metallic and prob brighter then your wanting. Personally I like how they and rotosound swing66 sound with overdrive. But prob not the sound your looking for.
