This post is for all the guys that are looking for a really good string to use with metal music.
Ive been using Ken Smith Rock Masters in my thrash band since about '93 and I loved the warmth and super full sound they gave but...they are not easy to find locally and I wanted something that was easier to get my hands on without having to order online.
Answer.....D'Addario Pro Steels! Jesus these things were made for metal or rock music. They bark like hell, sound so gritty and they are so full I had to ease off of my RBI cuz my drummer couldnt hear the guitars (2 412 cabs) and I didnt change any settings prior to changing the strings. These things are just powerful sounding.
Before all the "purist" jump on board, I am only recommending these in a rock or metal setting. They may work for other genres but I have only tried these in the metal band. I use Chromes for my other non aggressive stuff.
Anyhow, if you are one of the many posting, "What string is best for metal", check these out. I was friggin amazed!
BTW, they are high tension strings and some say, rough on your digits. They are...but totally worth it. Youll toughen up....sissy!

On my MM Stingray 4-string, tuned C#,G#,C#,F#, I use a custom gauge of the JustStrings steel strings (which are awesome steel strings for cheap), and play with a pick.
I've found that the Fodera Heavies on my Schecter Studio 6 and Spector Legend 6 are incredibly-well voiced for my hard rock/metal band because they appear to be a combination of nickel and steel. Very uniform tension, handle detuning well, are bright and nasty like steels, but hide some fret-click and are forgiving like nickel rounds.

I love the fact that their tension is rated on the website, it allowed me to pick a great set for A Standard tuning on my 5er, and you're right... they have a bark to the attack. On my Warwick thru my Mesa rig, my tone makes me very happy.
I have a set of Rotosound's SS strings on my 4 string and tbh, they feel more coarse to me than the ProSteels. |

Each to their own though.

like farts, old strings sound better.
