Okay, first off, I love the band, both their old and new stuff. I'm chasing a tone similar to the bassist on their past two records. I know his gear with the exception of his strings, which I can't find info on anywhere.

To me, it sounds like he has his jazz bass full on and is using either brighter flatwounds or "dull"/older rounds. The tonal qualities of both are pretty similar ((imo/ime)), so if I'm right one way or another I'll just get flats, but I was hoping someone with a keener ear than mine, which is probably most of you, could listen to some of these songs and chime in your opinions.

For gear info, his bass is a stock fender highway one jazz through an ampeg svt ((4x10 or 6x10)). Pedals are...boss rc-2 loop station, maxon od-9, boss dd-3, and a boss cs-3.

Here are some of their songs with pretty clear bass lines. Just a note, if anyone gets interested and does their own researching, songs from these two albums are the only ones that have the bassist in question.

mewithoutYou - The Fox, The Crow, And The Cookie - YouTube

mewithoutYou - A Glass Can Only Spill What It Contains - YouTube

mewithoutYou- The Angel of Death Came to David's Room - YouTube

Thanks a million in advance to any who chime in!

Fairly certain Gregg played on catch for us the foxes as well. I know he wasn't on a-b life. And I have always loved his tone, and I can see how you could think he uses flats, but I've seen them live plenty of times, and I'm fsirly certain he uses rounds.

Ya know what Jimmy, I always remember his tone to be much more aggressive than it actually is. Well after going on a mwy binge recently, I have to say it definitelly sounds like flats to me aswell.
