Mike Inez unplugged string tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a 1996 mint Alvarez Fusion acoustic bass. It is the exact bass Mike Inez used in the Alice in Chains unplugged concert. Does anyone know what type of strings he used for that? Steels, flats, etc.? Or on Jar of Flies as well? I have searched all over and can't really find a mention of strings other that on electric bass he uses Dean Markleys. Thanks in advance!

Mike Inez string tone continued...

FWIW My Alvarez Fusion acoustic came with an old set of Elixirs on it. It actually sounds pretty close for being crappy strings...you can see the coating falling off. I would even consider putting new Elixir polywebs on it, but I couldn't find any kind of tension rating on the Elixirs at all. Anyone you regular Elixirs on their AEB? I'm not necessarily looking for that flatwound sound, I have a fretless Jazz for that. I'm just basically looking for that Alice in Chains acoustic style sound.
I guess if all else fails I will try the TI Acousticores but I really don't want to wait to order them if I don't necessarily have to at the moment! haha!
